Scott Carnahan, MSPT, ATC
Scott Carnahan is the founder of SportsPlus and a graduate of The University of Iowa's Athletic Training and Physical Therapy programs. He has worked in the field of sports medicine and rehabilitation for more than 25 years, helping to grow and mentor young professionals as the practice has grown. He specializes in the assessment and treatment of complex orthopedic injuries and sports conditions.
Scott and his wife Brenda have 3 children, Grant who is a personal trainer, Kyle who is currently attending Optometry school and Maggie who is studying business administration and swimming at Olivet Nazarene University.
Brett Hand, PTA, ATC, CSCS
Brett brings a varied background of experience and settings to SportsPlus. He received his degrees from East Tennessee State University, Furman University, and San Juan College.
Brett currently provides Athletic Training Services to West Marshall High School.
Jessie Dirks, DPT
Born and raised in Monticello, IA, she completed undergraduate degree in Biology at Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids while also playing basketball for the Mustangs. She then attended Clarke University in Dubuque and graduated wit a Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2012. Jessie worked at Bothwell Regional Medical Center in Sedalia, MO until January 2015 when she joined the SportsPlus team. She enjoys working with people of all ages helping them return to their functional activities, whether that is sports, job, or enjoying retirement. Along with helping people return to their daily activities, she also enjoys the relationships formed by working with her patients so closely. Jessie lives in Marshalltown and enjoys spending time with family and friends along all types of outdoor activities, running, traveling, and sports.
Matt Crandon, DPT
Matt joined the SportsPlus team in February 2015. A graduate of East Marshall high School, Matt attended Central College where he received his undergraduate degree in Athletic Training, and Des Moines University where he received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2006. Matt previously worked with Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center as a Physical Therapist in their Marshalltown and Toledo clinics. Matt's professional interests lie in outpatient orthopedics where he has experience in athletic injury and post-surgical rehabilitation. Matt has received special training in Kinesio taping and myofascial release techniques. Matt and his wife Elizabeth have 2 children, Austin and Lexie. In his spare time he enjoys golfing, hunting, fishing, slow-pitch softball, Iowa Hawkeye athletics.
Alyssa Hulsing, PTA
Alyssa grew up in Grinnell, IA and attended Grinnell High School. She received her Physical Therapist Assistant degree from Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, IA. Alyssa is the second of 4 daughters in her family and loves to spend time with her family and friends and enjoys playing with her dog. Growing up, Alyssa was involved with in volleyball, basketball, track, and softball. She continues to spend a lot of time arond sports and hopes to one day follow in her parents' footsteps of being a coach. Aside from sports, Alyssa is an active member of her church and takes great joy in helping people.
Nealey Webster, ATC
Nealey is from Indianola, Iowa where she attended Indianola High School. Nealey then obtained her bachelors degree from the University of Iowa in Athletic Training. Currently, she is working on her Masters in Exercise Science and Sport Rehabilitation through Logan University. In her free time, Nealey enjoys hiking with her golden retriever, Kirby, biking, and exploring new places. Nealey is the Athletic Trainer with Marshalltown High School.
Jeremy is from Morris, Illinois and went to Central College in Pella Iowa. He received his BS in Exercise Science, emphasizing strength & conditioning. He played football, capping off his senior season with the Mel Ver Meer Team Loyalty Award. He served as an intern in the Central athletic weight room for 2 years, working with more than 600 athletes from every sport on campus. Jeremy enjoys focusing on and perfecting individual's technique during lifting and exercise and has a passion for working with high level athletes.
Jeremy is recently engaged to his fiancé Paige who played softball at Central. Jeremy enjoys all kinds of sports, being outdoors including hunting and fishing and is passionate about the Chicago Bears.
SportsPlus Professional Staff - Grundy Center Clinic
John Richter, DPT, ATC
John grew up in rural Iowa, attending GMG high school and later Simpson College where he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Athletic Training. He continued his education at AT Still University in Mesa, AZ earning his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. John's journey with SportsPlus started in high school, as a patient and has continued over the years with him working as a PT aide, student intern, and now as a physical therapist/athletic trainer in the Grundy Center clinic. Since 2013, John has been the Head Athletic Trainer at Gladbrook-Reinbeck HS and enjoys working with young athletes. His true passion is in the clinic, as a physical therapist, rehabilitating individuals who are lacking the ability to perform life at their desired level. John takes a functional approach to his rehab techniques and makes sure each individual is equipped with the knowledge and tools to improve their function and quality of life. John is married to his wife Katie, and together they have a beautiful daughter, Clara Sue. He enjoys spending time with his family, cycling, golfing, and being active in his church.
Kristina Horner, ATC
Director of Sports Medicine
Kristina graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in Athletic Training. She enjoys evaluating and treating sports injuries, especially in the high school athlete. Kristina loves being outdoors and is a member of Orchard Hill Church.
Mackenzie Digman, LAT, ATC
MacKenzie was born and raised in Dubuque, IA. She attended the University of Northern Iowa where she earned her Bachelor’s of Art degree in Athletic Training. She then went on to earn her Master’s of Science degree in Athletic Training at Western Michigan University. MacKenzie enjoys spending time with her family and friends, running, being outside, and watching the Chicago Cubs. MacKenzie is the Athletic Trainer at Grundy Center High School
Shelby Reiter, ATC
Shelby grew up in Denver, Iowa and graduated from Denver High School. She received her BA in Athletic Training from the University of Northern Iowa.
She loves treating and evaluating injuries and being out on the field with her athletes. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, watching sports, fishing, playing slow-pitch softball, and playing with her dog Toby. Shelby started on Monday, September 10th and is working out of the Grundy Center clinic and will serve as the Head Athletic Trainer at BCLUW and assist with other area athletic events as needed!
SportsPlus Administrative Staff - Marshalltown / Grundy Center
Megan is responsible for the daily activities of our business office. She has many years of experience dealing with healthcare insurance and governmental regulations.
Betty joined the SportsPlus staff in 2002 and helps with many patient and business related tasks, including scheduling, medical billing and insurance.
Amy coordinates all aspects of patient care - everything from scheduling your appointments to communicating with your referring physician.
